Fall Point and Shoot Pics

D: Even though my point and shoot camera doesn't even come close to the quality pictures that W's camera produces, I felt these recent Fall pics, taken by our nanny, were blog worthy since the subjects are so stickin cute!!

Everthing's blurry

W: It's been awhile since I've penned a post on the blog. I know, WTF, right? Seriously, it would be simplistic to say that I've been too busy juggling the usual dad stuff (work, kids, wife, a Vegas bachelor party, fantasy football, MLB playoffs, etc).

The truth is I have plenty of time to write. My problem is keeping up with the Deuce.

Every time I set fingers to keyboard, they've moved on and my latest writing idea is as stale as the Oatie O's lurking their highchairs.

As you may have guessed, I like to take lots of photos. And writing about the Deuce is like being a photographer taking a shot of a subject that is moving so fast that you only have two choices. The first choice is to hold the camera still and take a blurry picture of the subject while capturing the detail of the background. The second option is to track your subject with the camera, sacrificing the background for a subject in perfect detail. Try to do both at once, and the whole shot turns out blurry.

That's what's been happening to me, blurry writing. So pardon me while I share a few of the topics that I almost blogged over the past month.

They are everywhere all at once. To baby-proof or not to baby-proof? (We went half way). How much potting soil can a baby eat before you notify the on-call nurse? They can pick up Cheerios! What do you mean O-gubba climbed half way up the stairs? I can't believe how much baby food I just made. Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da! Why is the Deuce attracted to wires and outlets and my BlackBerry instead of all those fun toys? Finally, they feed themselves with a bottle. Our "divide and conquer Sundays" totally rule.

And so on and on goes the list. The topics pile up faster than I can write, and so rather than try to keep up, I'll share a few of my new favorite pictures. I hope you enjoy them.

Ode to Our Nanny

D: The start of October brought enormous changes to our family. We said good-bye to our caregivers at the day care and hello to our totally awesome, loving, nurturing and fun nanny. We also said good-bye to frantic mornings, and to double-barrel-baby-holds up and down the day care stairs each day. We said good-bye to every contagious childhood illness that you can think of and more sick days taken off work than I can count. We said good-bye to the inconsistency of care (since they were hiring some one new to watch our children every few weeks). We said good-bye to the bright florescent lights and loud distracting sounds of other children playing and crying through the twins’ nap times.

This month we said ‘hello’ to our new nanny and enthusiastically welcomed her into our home and hearts. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful this change has been for our family. Our mornings begin so seamlessly, without the chaos of having to rush two sleeping babies out of their slumber, through their feedings and dressed and out the door all before 7:30am. Now, they can sleep until 7 if they want to (and better yet, so can I!). Our nanny comes in and takes over with what ever we are doing and I can continue with MY morning routine. I can honestly say I have not blown dried my hair since I went back to work 4 months ago, and now I can!

When I get home, no matter how hard my day is at work, I am instantly happy when I see our nanny sitting on my living room floor singing songs, reading books or playing with the Deuce. It is such a welcoming sight to come home to.

The kiddos are also very happy with our new situation. They love to hear our nanny talk and sing to them, and they both light up when she comes into the room. They are napping wonderfully in their own cribs on fairly consistent schedules. She is teaching them new skills such as waving bye-bye, sign language, and eating from the bottle on thier own. She prepares home cooked meals (more on those later) in our kitchen for the boys. And they go on stroller walks through the neighborhood almost every day. Our dogs are even happier with the arrangement since they don’t have to be home alone all day.

We really lucked out by finding such an amazing person to assist us in raising our children. Not only is this arrangement less taxing on us, I honestly believe we could not have made a better decision for the well being of our children. As you can tell, I am one happy momma.

Amazing Discovery

D: Recently I spent an entire day with the Deuce playing and laughing together. There was a moment towards the end of the day, when I made an awesome realization...my kids are hilarious. They honestly crack me up! I mean, they've always been cute. Over the last few months they've been proving how strong and smart they are. But as their personalities are starting to unveil I often catch a glimpse of two children that honest to god keep me in stitches!

What an absolute joy it is to laugh with your children!! Not to get too corny, but I’m pretty sure I’ve just unlocked the key to life’s lesson on happiness.

OUCH!!

The title of this blog entry is not exactly the expletive that I shouted yesterday morning as I was bitten by one of my children while breastfeeding. I’m trying to keep things PG.

Over the past month, the Deuce have been exploring their new 4 chompers (two on top and two in the bottom). And among the irritants that come along with those new pearly whites (the incessant teeth grinding; the screams that ensue when they bite each other) there have only been a few instances of momma mutilation.

It really hasn’t even been that painful…until yesterday. Yesterday F left his mark. He quite possibly may have came close to transforming me back into hipster status, with the piercing I never wanted. (Lets face it… I was never a really hipster to begin with.) And, after spending the day on the phone with lactation consultants and pediatricians, it is sinking in that this may not be a one-time instance.

My first parental experience with discipline is here. In order to continue to breastfeed (my goal is one year), I must teach them not to bite mommy. I have gotten some good tips from the docs, but I’d love to hear what has worked for the moms who read this blog.

I will offer one piece of advice I’ve learned (too late) that potentially may have avoided this from happening: If you plan on continuing to breastfeed, stay clear of the Avent sippy cups, or any sippy cup where they have the BITE IT TO GET THE FLUID TO COME OUT.

Duh. Lesson learned.

A note to my family... I KNOW we are behind on giving you a steady stream of photos of the boys. To put it lightly, we've been a bit busy. This weekend, however, is sure to be filled with an abundance of picture taking. To tide you over and to remind you how cute my two little vampires are, I'm adding my two favorite pics of O (from well over a month ago).
